Goodrich was awarded the contract to build the wing gear for the new A380, the largest passenger jet in the world. They were set to go to one of the largest manufacturer air shows, the Farnborough Airshow. They had 7 weeks to be ready for this. One of Mitchell Plastics & Casegoods customers recommended us for the job. A Gentleman, Bob Judson, who is the contract photographer, was hired to approach us and see if we could build a life size model of the gear. We said sure, then he said you need to do it in four weeks. So after the big gasp we said we’d take it on. We had a crew of 15 people working 12 to 15 hours a day. Engineering drawings were created, translated from CATIA to Pro-E software and produced. The pictures below show you the process we went through from start to finish.
Since then we have completed other projects for them such as the front nose gear of the an F18 fighter jet, The life size “cowl” from the 787 passenger jet and other items.
